Abstract

Peritonitis is a well recognized and nmost significant cmplication of peritoneal dialysis. The most common causes of peritonitis are peritoneal catheter-relted intraluminal and expogenous contamination. However, the colon is felt to be a
potential
source of diaysate contamination.
We exerienced a rare case of a 65 year old male patient who dveloped peritonits by gram negative organisms (Serratia marscence) following a colonoscopy with rectal biopsies for evaluation of rectal bleeding. Six hours after hours after the
colonoscopy,
the patient developed diffuse abdominal pai. The dialysate was turbid with 20,000 WBC/§§ (99% PMN cells) and grew Serratia marscence afcer 2 days. The peritonitis was not improved in spite of proper antibiotics, and, so peritoneal catheter was
removed.
We report case of peritonitis following colonoscopy on CAPD with review of literatures.
